Communication Program

In the complex health care system we work in today, good communication among providers and with patients is crucial to ensuring safe, competent care. Complete and concise communication in both written and verbal forms ensures providers are communicating about the crucial elements of care – assessment, diagnosis, treatment plans, care delivery and outcomes. Breeches anywhere in the course of care can lead to adverse outcomes and lack of trust by the patient. There is no doubt that better communication leads to better patient outcomes.

ELM courses can help your providers with their communication skills in working with other members of the team, with patients, and their families. In addition, when care doesn’t go as planned and an unexpected event occurs, ELM can educate your providers in communicating about and disclosing adverse events.

Appropriate communication in the medical record is just as important. Ensuring the care provided is appropriately documented is often the key issue in litigation. Health care providers are expected to clearly articulate the facts of care provided, with appropriate detail regarding diagnostic decision making and response to treatment.

ELM courses are available to help your providers improve their communication skills in all settings – with patients, with other providers, and when documenting the care rendered.
